Admiral Hawke, Street not known, Styvechale
| This pub is mentioned in the Coventry Standard of October 1767, when a "One-Horse Chair . . . almost as good as new, with Harness" was advertised for sale at Mr. Cox's "Sign of Admiral Hawke, near the Turnpike, Stivichall" (Styvechale).
In July 1766 Mr. Cox's pub had been named for Admiral Vernon. However, in December 1766 Sir Edward Hawke was made First Lord of the Admiralty, which explains the change of name.
Five years earlier a Richard Cox was the tenant of the Three Closes, near Stivichall Turnpike - perhaps the same person? | |||
