Angel, 1 Cook Street
| Alternative Addresses: | Cook Street Square | ||
| This was an ancient inn, as it is recorded in 1480 as being on the Prior's ground.
As early as February 1914 plans were being made to remove the licence of the Angel to an as yet unbuilt pub on the corner of Humber Road and Humber Avenue. This would, of course, soon become the Humber Hotel. The formal application for licence removal was made on the 30th April 1915, and the final order for removal was granted in February 1917. This is a sign used since the Middle Ages reflecting the connection between religious establishments and travellers' inns and hostels at that time. | |||
