Coventry Hotel, 31 Earl Street
| These premises have been known by different names during their history: | FROM | TO | NAME |
| 1834 | 1842 | Old Star | |
| 1842 | 1846 | Coventry Hotel | |
| 1846 | 1940 | Old Star | |
| Until 1842 this was the Old Star. When Samuel Johnson left in April 1840 it appears to have ceased business for over a year, until an advert in the Coventry Herald of December 1841 reported that the Old Star was "now doing a Good Business", and was To Be Let "Coming in low".
The next we hear is July 1842 when a licence was granted to Thomas Morgan, "for the Coventry Hotel, late the Old Star".
In August 1846 landlord James Haddon's license was temporarily suspended for various violations and complaints. This was renewed in September on condition of keeping a clean sheet. Two months later Haddon passed the license to Henry Perkins who, it appears, soon reverted the pub's name to the Old Star. | |||
