Bedrock, Market Way
After a £70,000 refurbishment, the former Busters nightclub in Market Way (which had previously been Forty Thieves) reopened in December 1994 as the Bedrock pub. The owner, however, was hoping to be granted a 1am dancing and entertainments licence, turning the premises effectively into a nightclub, promising to play 70s and 80s disco, not rave music. This, however, was turned down by the justices, who were concerned about a repeat of the violence which had troubled Busters.
The place remained a pub, although in June 1995 it was granted a licence to stage live music until 11pm (pub opening hours at that time) before eventually becoming the Bedrock Cafe, which itself had closed by 1998. | |||
